BEE Registration (Star Ratings)

Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) is an agency established under the MINISTRY OF POWER, GOVERNMENT OF INDIA. The objective of BEE India is energy and cost saving. The Government has made it compulsory for some notified items to have star ratings and labels which specify the energy saving performance of the product and help the customers in making the perfect selection before purchasing such product. On 1st March, The Government of India has accomplished the innovative initiative to conserve energy under the provision of the Energy Conservative Act, 2001 BUREAU OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY (BEE).

Why product required BEE (Star Rating) Certificate?

BEE certification is provided by the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) of India to the manufacturers of electrical and electronic products. It does so in the form of rating the energy efficiency of appliances and then giving them the BEE energy rating in the Bureau of Energy Efficiency certification. BEE Raise awareness and knowledge of energy efficiency, conservation and share information about it. A BEE (Star rating) certificate is required to show the product’s level of performance and electricity usage. It Indicates of product efficiency and performance in terms of electricity consumption. Higher star rating means higher energy saving.

 

The Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) purpose is to “institutionalize” energy efficiency services, enable delivery methods across the country, and lead energy efficiency in all industries in India. Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) primary objective is to reduce energy intensity in the economy. It will also secure the manufacturer’s or industry’s reputation for adhering to the applicable requirements.

BEE Certification Process

Following steps are involved in this process

Step1: Submit the product sample(s) to NABL accredited lab along with required technical details for Testing and get the test report.

Step2:  Prepare the required documents and register Brand on BEE portal along with online remittance of fee.

Step3:  Submit the hard copy of application along with supportive documents duly signed by Authorized Signatory. If BEE department requests clarification or additional information, Furnish the same.

Step4: Scrutiny of the documents will be done by BEE officials to ensure that documents submitted are in the specified order or not.

Step5:  Once BEE verified the application, they grant the Login Credential and activate the link for model registration.

Step6:  Test report needed to submit the model registration (For each model)

Step7:  Applicant have to for BEE both online and offline (For each model). Make an online payment to BEE for the model registration fee. Submit a hard copy of the application along with all required documents duly signed by the Authorized Signatory. If BEE department requests clarification or additional information, Furnish the same.

Step8:  Scrutiny of the documents will be done by BEE officials to ensure that documents submitted are in the specified order, properly filled or not.

Step9:  When BEE is satisfied with the submitted documents, it approves the application and grants the permission to affix the label.

Note* – In the case of a domestic manufacturer, a License is granted to the manufacturer. And in the case of a foreign manufacturer, a license is granted to an importer.

Documents required by Testing Lab

  1. Sample(s) details along with Manufacturing unit legal address.
  2. Copy of factory license (In English as well as in original language) describing the relevant product as the scope of manufacturing and indicating the manufacturing – in English as well in original language
  3. Copy of BIS License with validity date and indicating List of all models

 

Documents required by BEE for Brand / Company registration

  1. ​Covering letter in the prescribed format
  2. Copy of payment receipt of the registration fee
  3. Print out of online Brand registration application form (properly signed and stamped by authorized signatory)
  4. Copy of Brand / Trade Mark Certificate
  5. Copy of MSME certificate (for Indian OEM only)
  6. Copy of valid ISO 9001 Quality Management certificate (Brand owner)
  7. Authorized signatory letter
  8. Copy of BIS License with validity date and showing all applied models

  1. Documents / technical details required by BEE for model registration
  2. Covering letter in the prescribed format.
  3. Copy of online model registration payment receipt (each model)
  4. Print out of mandatory form and its Annexure form.
  5. Copy of test report and specimen of BEE label
  6. Copy of valid ISO 9001 Quality Management certificate (OEM)
  7. Scope of lab accreditation

Costing and Timeline

  • For Brand Registration:  20 to 30 Working Days
  • For Model Registration: 20 to 25 Working Days

Validity and Renewal of BEE Registration

BEE Registration is valid for 3 years from the date of grant of approval by Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) and it can be renewed subsequently.
